Thank you Popeye, I could not have said it better. LCP has always done a great job, with or without police assistance. We sleep better at night knowing that you are out there. This is a great little city and surrounding area. There are so many people involved in a great number of volunteer projects, people that are willing to give there time and support to worthwhile projects. Living in a city or town where people actually know one another is rare there days. Living in a town were people will actually stop what they are doing to help another person is extreemly rare these days. When I think of all of the clubs, organizations, and volunteer projects the are undertaken and accomplished in Lakeside I am proud to live here . I am happy to live in a town where I can help a neighbor , where people still take time to greet one another on the street, and children can grow up in a more protected environment than those children living large cities.
LCP, the Fire Department, members of the city council, water district council, Step, TLBP, Lions , Chamber ,Kid Zone, 4Th. of July commitee and countless other people devote there time and energy to making Lakeside the beautiful town that it is.I am happy to live here and I would like to take a moment to thank every volunteer in every organization known and unknown that gives of themselves to make Lakeside and the surrounding area such a great oplace to live.
THANK YOU ALL

Listen to all the negitives. I can tell you, that I worked(volunteered) at the fire hall for years while all these boys volunteered. I am ashamed of all of you bad mouthing any of these boys. I do know all these boys personally, and they all do their duties whether its volunteered or paid. In fact, when not even working, they love to hang out at the fire hall. It has always been a known fact, that all volunteers go and help. Some of the volunteers don't have a job so they go there to get away from home. Is it wrong to hang out where you love to be? They all love to work and help others and save lives. Working under pressure with medical and fires is hard on anyone. Give these kids a break and let them do what they are trained for. This is just adding more pressure. What happens to personel problems should stay inside their doors. Go to the board if you have a problem, or check with your mate and find out the real reason they go to the fire hall. Don't advertise a problem (if there is one) over the internet for everyone to discredit our wonderful dedicated fireman. This really sickens my stomach. This means each and everyone of you. This dramatizes a problem even worse and soon no one will respond to a medical because you blew it up big enough that they don't want to see each other. Is this what you really want, no one to help. Grow up and go to the source! Get a LIFE. If you have a problem, stop putting it out there for everyone to hear you. This one sounds a little personal to me. Find out the real reasons that they all hang out at the fire hall. They LOVE IT.
And to answer your question at why the patrol sits across the street on a graveled parking lot near the railroad tracks with the patrol car, GAS !! Do you want to make a contribution to our gas bill? We do have to sit at each end of town and observe what or who is coming or going. This is for your safety. We do have a problem with gas prices, plus we can get out of a vehicle and stretch our legs. Why don't you go sit in a car for 4-8 hours and not take a break. Thats a longer time than going to Portland. IF this person ever went on patrol, they would know that we are out there being dedicated caring people working free to the community, we are the eyes and ears for the sheriff's office, and its hard on us the long hours of sitting. We take breaks because we want to. We don't just sit there, we also sit at the other end of town too. I don't hear any of them complaining. If we wanted to drive the whole time, the gas bill would be huge. I personally have done this for 10+ years and I do know what I am doing. Yes, we do sit and visit, we may even laugh at each others jokes, but how is that hurting you? At least we do house watches, follow crime, report incidents, help people in distress, and actually care about peoples safety. What are you doing? How is that hurting you? Do you have something to hide and don't want us to see it. One sheriff told me when I first started, "The ones who complain are the ones to watch. They have something to hide." What are you hiding??
It is nice to know, nights that I don't go out, that someone else is caring enough for my community, that they drive around all the streets, checking for burglars, have someone close a garage door that they forgot to close, that we can help someone who needs help, that we can get someone broken down, back on the road,we have done welfare checks so the fire department can actuallly sleep through a night, that we sit with someone scared to be alone while waiting for the sheriff, that we have a direct radio contact with sheriff's dispatch and can get help quickly when possible. Well it is possible now. We have a deputy that the city has paid for. We now have someone to call, to get answers, we have an officer who does security checks at businesses, we have everything we have dreamed for. But, we are still out there doing the personal checks on every street, giving our new deputy backup, doing everything we can do to still help our community. I think we have done a beautiful job and it has been hard staying up all hours of the night to protect all of you. This community could be worse without our patrols. The bad guys sure don't want to be watched doing their crime. I do know who posted this and we will be watching you closer and your troubled family. That is a promise. Thank you.

The job of office co-ordinator is what Shawn does. There are times when he is not there . He does not get paid for being a volunteer firefighter. I am sure that there is a job discription . Jeremy works on the equipment about ten hours a week. Jeremy does not get paid for being a volunteer fire fighter either. Mike does a lot of work,so do most of the other volunteers on the department. There are always things that need to be attended to and every volunteers time at the station should be appricated. There is a great deal of manpower that goes into all of the activities and functions that the firefighters are involved in. All of the firefighters contribute to this community and the surrounding area selflessly day and night, no matter what type of weather or what type of emergency. They also organize and contribute to a number of local events each year , Easter, 4th. of July, cardboard boat races, Haloween, and other events and activities. They contribute time and money to a large number of local activities. Firefighters work at Kid Zone and Lakeside Citizen Patrol. What needs to be done is to recognize all of the good things that this community and the people in it do. We should all be thankful.

Rod: Answering Jenny and thank You Sentinel

By being there I mean that Shawn is on duty. That may entail being on calls, answering complaints, training, area familiarization, etc. If you need a fire permit or any other non-emergency bussiness related item all you have to is call the bussiness line at 759-3931 and leave your telephone number. A member of the department will return your call and make arrangments to fufill your needs. Also in light of our severe shortage of volunteer manpower, if you might be willing to join up and see for yourself what bing a firefighter is all about. "those pesky burn permits would be a lot more accessable then"
