First order of business was installing two new Commissioners, Dan Gonsalves and Tina Ross, along with incumbent Commissioner Shirley Janssen. City Administrator Charlie Hill, read the Oath of Office and swore them in. Commissioner Herman Fanger was absent due to a medical emergency.

After calling the meeting to order and flag salute, a statement was read by Chairman James Edwards:

“Since it’s the start of a new year and we have new challenges and new members for the Planning Commission, I thought it appropriate as chairman to make a reminder statement as to our purpose as a Planning Commission. Our main focus is on land use within the City of Lakeside, to make quality decisions on land use issues that best reflect community priorities and needs, in the present and in the future.

For us to be successful, we must consider these values:

  • Use a rational process, which the planning process is.
  • Use facts as the basis for all decisions, never allow personal opinions, experiences, or feelings to influence our decisions. Ultimately, our ordinances will be the determining factor in our decision making.
  • Create a common understanding of what the community needs versus what individuals may need.
  • Believe in the importance of involving people in a complex process that balances all interests.
  • Consider all alternatives.
  • Prepare a program to take action.
  • Be sure all decisions we make are defendable to the community and to a court of law.

During my short time on this commission, I believe we have met these goals very well as a group of volunteer citizens working together, and I’m confident we can continue to do so. It’s been a pleasure working with this group during the last year, and I’m looking forward to the new year.”

A letter of resignation from Joan Anderson was read, and a motion was made by the Commission to accept her resignation.

Hearing date for conditional use permit

An additional workshop was set for the Planning Commission to review the Lakeside Comprehensive Plan update, which will be held on January 19, at 12 p m.

Isn’t Gonsalves the guy that complained and cried about having an illegally divided home in the wrong zone? Great another lawbreaker in Lakeside government.
