Eggs, tiny fry, fish

Jan 15, 2012 No Comments Print

The Eel Tenmile Salmon Trout Enhancement Program (STEP) along with the Lakeside Library are featuring Chinook Salmon eggs to show the process of fertilized salmon eggs developing.

The eggs are now starting to hatch into tiny  fry. The tiny fish still have the egg sacs attached and show swimming ability. The newly hatched fish must make it to the top of the water to take in air to fill their air bladders before being able to swim freely. The egg sacks will feed the fish for a period of time.

Stephanie Saxon releases her eyed Salmon eggs after the eggs have adjusted to the waters temperature.

Stephanie Saxon and Richard Bridges floating the Salmon eggs in the water to help them adjust to the temperature of the water.

You may view the eggs as they develop at the library during normal library hours.  This exhibit is enjoyed by young and adults alike.
