Old tattered flags

Members from the Lakeside Fire District #4 closed off a portion of Eighth Street Monday evening for a very important event.

The Lakeside Lions club hosted a “Flag Retirement Ceremony,” to legally dispose of some of old faded and tattered flags of the United States of America.  Most of these flags graced Eighth Street in Lakeside for many years of holidays and special events.

This year new flags were purchased by way of sponsorships from groups as well as individuals from within the community. The ceremony was administered by the North Bend American Legion Honor Guard, who somberly unfurled these symbols of America for the last time.

After the ceremony attendees were treated to coffee and cake at the Lions club hall on Bowron Rd.
