A “splash” with waves of grain
Jonie Reeder from Cakes by Jonie made a special lunch for the participants. She featured “Waves of Grain” with homemade bread.
Homemade vegetable soup and bread
Reeder also stirred up homemade soup. The soup was especially tasty because it was made with vegetables that the children have been growing in the Harmony community garden.
Several of the kids have been working since spring with Aaron and Sherry Richards on the garden beds that were donated for this purpose.
Reeder talked to the group about the different kinds of grains and other ingredients used in baking. She also spoke about some of the procedures in baking and some of her experiences in her chosen profession.
A reading by Miss Sue
The book, Stone Soup, was shared. It is a folk story about how some delicious soup was made starting with a stone put in boiling water. Other people bring other ingredients until the soup is completed.
Awards
Awards and prizes were given out. Emily Bramhall was the top reader, but everyone was a winner.
Acknowedlements
A big thank you goes out to the Lakeside community. We had eight programs with nine people sharing their talents and resources with the children.
We also thank those businesses and individuals who donated money and gifts that were much appreciated by the children.
Also, thanks to the moms who helped supervise and to Lakesideinfo.com and the Coos Bay World for the publicity. It is very gratifying to see the wonderful support for the children in our community.
