Public message from Lakeside Mayor Schilling

Jul 19, 2010 No Comments Print

It has come to my attention that misinformation is being disseminated both in print and verbally regarding Lakeside’s hazard abatement ordinance. The Ordinance 10-269 civil violations and enforcement was recently updated by Lakeside’s City Attorney, Fredrick Carlton.

Please read Attorney Carlton’s response given after I contacted him this morning. Watch for a fuller explanation after review.

The ordinance is similar to those currently in use by other cities. It gives cities the ability to provide a means by which to enforce a fair administrative abatement policy.

The ordinance does not give any city the right to violate any citizens property rights. I myself, as a property owner, am an advocate for you regarding these rights.

I have recently been misquoted in print, and I am alarmed at the inaccuracies being circulated in Lakeside.

The motivation behind this ‘campaign’ is not entirely clear at this time. I am sure that the purpose will become clear at some point.

The ordinance is available for review at city hall and comments from the writer, Mr Carlton will be forthcoming.
