Fire season is here
This year the spring weather has been favorable for growth . Brush , weeds , and grasses are drying out rapidly now. Sun and wind quickly reduce the moisture content of these light fuels (bushes, weeds, and grasses).
As weather continues to become dryer and hotter, fire danger will increase. As fire danger increases, fire restrictions will go into effect. The fire department will post signs on the main streets with the fire restrictions.
Be Fire Safe
Car catalytic converters cause fires every year. When you pull over (to talk on your cell phone) or park your car, make sure there is no brush, weeds or dry grass under or around the car.
Barbecues, especally the charcoal type can drop hot embers , wood decks (around the house) and dry lawns can ignite and burn undetected for hours.
Camping in an area where camp fires are allowed , make sure the fire is out completely before you leave camp.
Burn barrels should not be left burning unattended, the area should be clear of brush, debri and obstructions, and a hose with water should be ready and available (see your burn permit for rules and regulations.
If you are planning to burn and are not sure if there are restrictions in effect, please call the fire station and a department member will assist you.
