At the budget hearing and special council meeting held on June 17, it was agreed additional discussion was needed on Resolution 10-11 due to the fact that three council members were not able to attend the meeting.

The resolution covers setting staff wages for the upcoming fiscal year. Mayor Rod Schilling commented, “As far as I’m concerned, this needs a full council with a work session.”

With a budget deadline of June 30, it took quite a bit of back-and-forth to pick a date that would work for most.  Councilor Rudy Sherych made a motion to table the resolution until June 29, when  additional councilors can be in attendance and part of the decision.  A workshop will precede the special meeting.

Public input

” A bone to pick,” uttered attendee Dan Gonsalves questioning the salary of City Recorder/Administrator, Charlie Hill.  He stated, “A lot of the citizens here don’t want to pay her out of sewer money.”

Councilor Mack Eubanks asked Dan to be seated after his comments stating, “You are just trying to cause controversy.”  Gonsalves was most recently involved with the city when he was found to have an illegal apartment in his garage.

Mayor Schilling explained, “We are a small city and she (Charlie Hill) has a whole lot of different hats.”

The budget was adopted by the council, with the exception of  Resolution 10-11, and objected to by attendees Dan Gonsalves and Doug Lindahl.
