The Second Annual Crawdad Festival organizer Mattie Lane, was all smiles at the regular Lakeside Chamber of Commerce meeting held after the Crawdad Festival. The event brought in enough money to schedule the third annual festival, next year.

Owner and proprietor of 8th Street Grill, Joe Pepper,  expressed that plans are already in the works to make next years festival even bigger and better. He and Lane worked with many volunteers to pull it all together.

This is the biggest annual event ever held in Lakeside bringing in an estimated ten thousand people. The quantity of crawdads doubled from last year and they still ran out.

Some of the profit donated to beautification

The promised ten percent of the profits from the festival will go to Parks Advisory/Community Garden (PACG) for Lakeside beautification.

PACG had a booth at the festival and sold fudge, sold it all. The board members provided product, worked the booth and had energy left over to donate time to the festival.

The beautification can proceed with the influx of funds. The plan as underscored by Diane O’Bryan, PACG,  at the Lakeside Chamber of Commerce meeting will include:

♦ Two city benches

♦ Artistically painted fish for the fronts of the planters that are scattered around town

♦ Four more flowering trees

♦ Daffodil planting in the fall

♦ Picnic benches and a tic-tac-toe board for the “funscape”

The Crawdad Festival is the most successful event Lakeside has experienced in years! Thank you, Mattie Lane, Joe Pepper and ALL the wonderful folks who volunteer their time to support and enhance Lakeside.

More photos of the event would be great!
