Last week Lakeside Fire Department participated in a large scale fire emergency. At the request of the Governor , fire apparatus and personnel from departments statewide responded to the South Complex-Deer Ridge fire in Ashland.

The intent of the Governor and the primary mission of the responding agencies  was to protect life, and property, at the onset of a very threatening fire.

The Deer Ridge Fire is a historic event for Lakeside. This is the first time Lakeside has had the capability, training, equipment and resources to participate in an emergency of this type. Lakeside was represented by Division Chief Anderson and Firefighter Piersall.

Lakeside personnel and apparatus inspections received scores of Excellent. That indicates that Lakeside exceeded every requirement for equipment and safety at the state level for emergencies of this type.
Personnel statewide had an opportunity to meet and work side by side with Lakeside firefighters. Pumper/Tender 8661 received lots of attention , the design, capacity, function, and capabilities drew crowds of fire personnel at the fire camp and staging area.

During the initial setup at fire camp our truck provided lighting with our new scene lights until generators and permanent light stands were in place.

Lakeside protection levels remained at the same level during the incident. There were no shortages to the district. Tender 8662 was moved into the bay. That apparatus has the exact same capacities as Tender8661, it carries the same amount of water and has the same size pump.

All of Lakeside’s apparatus are maintained equally. Each one is DOT inspected yearly in September and follow identical maintenance programs. The difference is the age of the apparatus.

We are constantly striving to improve our training, capabilities and image throughout the county and statewide. In the future, it will be our honor to stand ready at the request of the governor to respond to emergency scenes .
