Summer reading a sweet success
As Lakeside’s Library Commissioner and on behalf of the Library staff, Board of Directors, and Friends of the Library, we would all like to thank those who came together to make this year’s summer reading program a great success.
The final fun edition was brought to us by Lakeside’s own Jonie Reeder of ”Cakes by Jonie” and was well attended by lots of reading kids. The presenters from previous sessions were also invited and enjoyed the presentation along with several of the kids’ parents.
A demonstration of cake decorating was given by Jonie whose icing rendition of a circus clown met with oohs, ahs and a lot of salivating. Then it was time for the kids to decorate their own cupcakes.

Along with some good sportsmanship provided by our decorated Fire Chief, Ted Ross, and lots of sweet frosting, the excitement level was evident. Clowns appeared from bags squeezed carefully onto cakes and more than one was sculpted partly by a side trip to the kids’ tongues.
It did not take long for the finished products to melt into the mouths of those present and as promised the summers end, prize giveaway ensued.
In the 6 to 8 year old group, Natasha Rader won 1st place for her summers reading prowess. In the 9 to 10 bracket, Emily Bramhall with an amazing 32 books read, left with the coveted 1st place prize. And with 10 points to his credit, Johnathen Burton corralled the 11 to 12 1st place slot.
Finally it came time to award the massive jar of jelly beans to the reader who came closest to guessing its number. With a guess of 4000 Emily Bramhall became the recipient of the beans, and was quick to share the bounty with all the kids present.
With this summer all but over and plans for next years program already in the works, I would like to encourage kids and adults alike to avail themselves of Lakeside’s wonderful Library.
Don’t forget the “Storylady” on Tuesday’s at 1:30 pm. for five and under.
