More from the July city council meeting…
Here is additional news from the July Lakeside City Council meeting not reported earlier:
Librarian, Nadine Goodrich, announced that there has been an increase of 4,000- plus circulation of book borrowing activity.
The library still has an opening on their board, anyone interested please contact Nadine.

Public works, Dennis Langley wants all to know that the paving is satisfactorily completed on Railroad Avenue. The same paving grant will again be applied for next year.

Mayor Nelson reported that Shutter’s Creek correctional institution will be requesting 70-90 more beds to be added to their sewer use in the near future.

Councilor Swift asked that the council revisit the department heads giving their first hand reports at the regular city council meetings. She stated that all are “not wanting to come in.”
Councilor Armstrong, stated that the council had voted twice in requesting the department heads give their reports. Councilor Schilling added: “It’s important for people to be able to ask questions directly from the department heads.”
Janet Swinford, spoke from the audience saying, “It’s so important to be able to ask questions of the department heads. It brings the community together so much to see them here.” Her statements were applauded.
No action was taken, leaving the department heads responsible for giving their own reports. All but Phil Heley, sewer department supervisor have attended the meetings personally to give their reports.

Job description change and salary increase for sewer employee George Little, was tabled.

The city planning commission recommended tentative plate sub-division approval for Morning Dove Estates, on eighth Street and Rachael. The council voted in favor of the recommendation.

Dan Gonsalves, speaking from the audience, still wants relief from the parking fees at the county park. “We have the most lucrative park in the county and we should get some advantage. As far as the mayor is concerned, he is done. Coos County Parks claims they are losing money right now on its operation at Tenmile.
