Lakeside Fire, Water District positions up for grabs
The boards of Lakeside Fire and Lakeside Water both have elective slots on the ballot in voters’ hands right now.
The vote by mail election is scheduled for a week from Tuesday, the May 19th election date.
Starting tomorrow, Lakesideinfo.com presents voters with candidate profiles for the Water Board. Tuesday, we’ll have statements from contested races for the Fire Board.
Each of the candidates for board positions has been invited to submit a statement for you to read on this site.
The Coos County Clerk’s office has mailed May election ballots for the schools and special districts election around the county. Once you’ve cast your ballot, it can be mailed or even dropped off at Lakeside City Hall.
The Lakeside Fire District and Lakeside Water District are each separate taxing districts. Unlike a number of cities, the two boards are completely autonomous from the city government operation.

Water Board
The races shape up as follows for two seats, there is no known opposition:
- Commissioner – Position 1 (4 year term): Linda M. Sherych.
- Commissioner – Position 2 (4 year term): Janet Swinford

Fire Board
Here are the races for three seats:
- Director- Position 1 (2 year term). Two candidates: Charles H. Nelson and Fred Clauson Jr.
- Director – Position 4 (4 year term). Two candidates: Calvin Walker and Stacy Joe Dunn (as a write-in).
- Director – Position 5, a 4 year term: Two candidates: Bill Usrey and Glen A. Muncy.
