dscf22011“No more bailout…no more socialism” could be heard from the crowd.

They were protesting higher taxes and bigger government.

The count was 200 at 3:00 p.m. But, the crowd swelled to nearly 500 in front of the Coos Bay Post Office at 4:15 p.m.

Just like around the entire country, the protest/rally was held on the afternoon of April 15th.

Robert Taylor, a member of the national group Campaign for Liberty, helped to organize the local event.

To highlight the grassroots nature, Taylor said he was not familiar with most of the other major group leader who had done the bulk of the organizing of other Tea Parties around Oregon, when we spoke with him this evening.

National news coverage helped

Taylor did give a lot of credit for the turnout to the national and state publicity generated for the event to those, such as Fox News, Rush Limbaugh, Glen Beck, and Lars Larson.

“It kind of gave us a boost,” he said. He was then receiving two to three phone calls a day about the event. It’s something he says, just ordinarily would never happen.

Taylor told us that his angst with the new regime is with the ever increasing growth of government and it’s massive spending.

He had also been disenchanted with the two major political parties and is now under the Libertarian banner. As to the turnout, he exclaimed, “The numbers were just overwhelming.”

Even the canine had something to say, “tell Bo no.” This dog has had life difficulties of his own and should be given some respect!
