A 1-1/2 hour talk was given at the Lions Club Monday night, March 16,.

Mr. Jeremy Logan and his assistant Tammy, spoke about the very real dangers of identity theft that we are all in danger of. They both work for Karen Esperance who has the applications for Pre-Paid Legal Services, Inc.

They went on to explain how devastating it can be to your entire life, not just financially. Information was passed out, tips to avoid identity theft:

Shred financial documents

Never click on links in unsolicited emails

Do not give out personal information

Protect your social security number

Keep your personal information in a secure place

Be alert to bills that do not arrive when they should

Be proactive about unexpected credit card or account statements

Be alert for credit being denied unexpectedly

Respond immediately to calls or letters about purchases you never made

Check your credit report

Regularly review your financial statements

Close any accounts that have been tampered with or established fraudulently

Go Paperless

Store your financial and personal information in a storage box by year

Be alert when responding to emails

When contacted by an institution by phone tell them you will call them right back

Opt our of pre-approved credit offers

Get a locking mailbox

Copy all of your credit cards and save them in a file at home

Carry only one or two cards at a time
