“Special” council meeting resolves: Lakesideinfo.com not part of city

At the St. Patrick’s Day special City Council meeting called by Mayor Orville Nelson, there was no apparent or obvious reasons given for having called an executive session prior to the meeting.

CORRECTION: In the story about the regular March Council meeting, we reported that the mayor had abstained in voting on firing Suzy Marcy. He actually voted in favor of the motion, making it unanimous.

DEQ says Lakeside violating state laws; Swift: “No comment!”

In hiring a non-certified wastewater treatment plant operator in 2007, Lakeside Mayor Orville Nelson has put the city of Lakeside in violation of Oregon’s DEQ rules.

What started out as Councilman Rod Schilling’s questioning of the mayor’s hiring practices at the plant, has now been found to be a legitimate matter of concern to the State of Oregon.

While the mayor’s solution is to get Heley qualified, there is concern over Heley not having taken even the most rudimentary level of DEQ testing. Nelson promised, during hiring discussion, that such testing would become a contractual obligation and be fulfilled within a year’s time.

It never happened.
