fire training

On Saturday February 14, twenty plus Firefighters from Lakeside and several other municipalities converged on Lakeside Fire’s training room for the first in a series of classes entitled First Responder.

The class is taught through the Southwestern Oregon Community College Fire Science Program and is administered by the Southwestern Oregon Fire Instructors Association.

This class is being attended by four first-time students from Lakeside Fire and an additional Lakeside Firefighter is seeking his recertification.

The 90-day version of this class is being condensed into three weekends of all-day instruction. This will enable those with work schedules that preclude weekday attendance to complete the class in a timely manner.

Next weekend’s class will be held in Coquille and the final weekend will be on campus at Southwestern College in North Bend. Kudos to all those involved for making this class happen.

This training will allow a higher level of service to not only Lakeside but all of the southern coastal Oregon fire departments represented. Lakeside Operations Chief Rod Schilling
