The mayor of the City of Lakeside appoints committees, some of which by tradition have been made to oversee various parts of the Lakeside government. His power to do so derives from the charter, but it is specified to be done under the direction of the rules of the council.
At the January council meeting some the new appointees for the City of Lakeside were announced by Mayor Orville Nelson.

The City Charter is the highest law in the City of Lakeside. It is the equivalent of the Constitution to the U.S. national government or the Oregon Constitution to the state government. In it, Section 20 outlines the duties of the Mayor in this regard.
It states: “The mayor shall appoint the committees provided by the rules of the council. He shall sign all records of proceedings approved by the council. He shall have no veto power and shall sign all ordinances passed by the council within three days after their passing.”
