Eubanks, council stall appointment
LAKESIDE – The open Lakeside council seat that was vacated upon the death of Jim Brown was to have been filled at this meeting. It never happened. Council President Mack Eubanks stated that the council, in the absence of the mayor, wanted to postpone the decision until the December meeting.
Eubanks was acting mayor at the meeting in the absence of Orville Nelson, who is having leg surgery and could not attend. The delay was widely seen as a nod to Nelson, to allow him to have decision-making powers at the next meeting, assuming he is able to attend.
A motion was made and seconded to postpone the appointment until the December meeting, but the timing of the decision, not making it either at the current meeting or, in the alternative, postponing it until January, was subject of heated controversy among Lakeside citizens who spoke at the meeting.
Several members of the audience suggested that the postponement should be until January, so that the newly elected councilors, who will have been sworn into office then, could be involved in making the choice of filling the seat.

One of the previously resigned council members, Harlan Green, voiced his desire to let the outgoing council make the choice at the December meeting.
Nonetheless, a vote was taken and unanimously passed to postpone the decision until the December meeting.
In other council actions, the job description for a library aid was read and agreed to, the part-time position will be posted Monday and filled as soon as possible.
The purchase of a FEMA map will be made from grant funds. The map will show the topography of Lakeside to a degree that hasn’t been seen before. This will allow for a better view of property within the flood plain or the flood way.
FEMA maps help property owners know if insurance is needed.
Coming…more on this story and the meeting from voices of the citizens of Lakeside. Stay tuned.

[...] [Updated Nov. 14: Council delays appointment of vacant position to December meeting] [...]
I just would like to state that I was at the Nov 15th council meeting and I was quite upset and outraged by the fact that our council is so misleading to our community and unfair as well lie to the citizens how rude and unfair is it to post a public announcement stating that anyone interested in filling Jim Brown’s seat on the council shall put in a letter of intent then to hear Mack Eubanks call for a motion to table the decision until the next meeting I would like to know why in the world if Mack is acting Mayor why cant he uphold the position?
I’ll tell you why because he is all talk and all show we do not need a council president like him what so ever I say we get a president who knows how to run a meeting and who can take charge in the mayors absence in stead of a power trip overweight guy who is not able to preform the task he is supposed to and then to table it for Dec meeting that’s as well absurd. Why allow the current council to have any say they wont be working with the new council or the replacement. And as for Jim Farmer, thank God he is not gonna be serving anymore. We need councilors who are gonna work for our community thank God Crista Elaine and Rod are filling the vacant seats they are fighters and not puppets now I think we should recall Mack since he does what’s in his best interest not the cities.
