The Lakeside Kid Zone is an after school program for kids ages 5-12 years old. All the kids are dropped off after school, in front of the Lakeside Public Library, and walk directly behind it to Kid Zone.

Hours are 3-6 p.m. on school days. We have been working at keeping the kids off the streets or home alone. Kid Zone is working with the kids to learn every day living experiences, manners, safety, and community service. They will grow to be great citizens who will work at helping their communities whether

work or volunteering.

This year and last, we have worked at getting parents more involved with the kids activities to help with family values.

Last year, as well as this year, our kids & parents will be involved with the Christmas Program held by the Lion’s Club. They are being taught singing, small instruments, and possibly a play for the program.

This year we have an officer who will visit, teach safety, learn about drugs, alcohol, and bike safety. We also have the Watershed teaching us about our Lakes, streams, and rivers. The Fire Department is teaching fire safety again this year and also doing fire drills unexpectedly each month. The Lakeside Sewer Department is going to take us through the new and old sewer plants, show the sprinkler system on the Airport, and what not to flush or run down your sinks.

We also have again this year “The Wizard” & “The Science Guys” who the kids and adults love. We want to work closer with “Goal Setting” for the kids. We should be taking kids on field trips to work places around town so they can learn jobs they might want to do.

We still do community service for the city by cleaning up garbage along the streets and parks. We visit our local library, read books and do story time. Homework is done immediately and then we go outdoors (if weather is good) and have fun doing sports, games, and relays. We also had a garden that the kids worked in the Community Garden and ate some of what we harvested.

Inside the kids do puzzles, games, computer games, show & tell, crafts, art, movies, and many more things. There is always a full balanced meal served daily given to us by the North Bay Elementary School kitchen that we pick up daily.

The Kid Zone does offer parents to volunteer, which we have around 7 now and could use more, and also 3 young teenager girls who need to volunteer to graduate.

If you or anyone else have more ideas or would like to help our program, attend the LCA meetings which are on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 7pm and they are held at the Lakeside City Hall council chambers and is open to the public. If you have a child interested
