PROJECT NAME: Lakeside Beach

Jun 25, 2008 No Comments Print

OBJECTIVE: To permit and build a sand beach at Tenmile Lakes County Park

BACKGROUND and NEED: More than forty years ago, during our summers here on the South Coast, residents and visitors alike came to Lakeside to enjoy our large sand beach that was located where currently the Lakeshore Lodge is now. The public swimming area and the visitors utilizing the beach greatly contributed to the local businesses and economy. With the removal of this one and only public swimming area for the Lakes, the Lakeside community lost a large reason for local folks to come and enjoy Lakeside. Our proposed project will be positive change to our community.

PROJECT STATUS: After two years, the project permits were approved. The wetland mitigation required for permits is completed. Green Construction and Daron Weathers donated equipment and man-hours to complete mitigation at a value of $3,400.00. Dyer Partnership are providing free surveying and engineering. Green Excavation, Wilcox and Dale Gage donated equipment and man-hours to prep site for sand delivery. A local landowner is donating five acres of clean sand.

REQUEST: Donations and support to complete this important community project. Contact Mike Mader, Tenmile Watershed, City Hall.
